What Happens to the Wood from the Tree Stump after Grinding?

There’s More to it Than Meets the Eye… Literally.

Stump grinding results in lots of chips of wood. You'll make more of them than you think, but they can be used as mulch on-site or added to your green waste can. Having your stump ground down will leave your yard with a hole since you've just ground out all the stump volume that filled it. You can shovel the wood chips into the hole to decay, and import soil to fill the hole.

This crew is amazing. The work they do and the clean up is awesome… my yard was cleaner after they took the trees down than before the trees came down. They work quickly and did beautiful work.

Faq

Is stump grinding included in the cost of tree removal?

No, stump grinding is an additional and separate cost though we can include it as a line item in your estimate if you mention it during our initial call.

Can you pull the stump out instead?

Some small stumps we can dig out with a machine or pull out! This will not work for every stump and is dependent on the situation.

Do I need 'TO Call Before You Dig' (CBYD)?

Depending on your tree stump's location, yes, you might have to! This is something we can also assess during a quote. Learn more about CBYD here: https://www.cbyd.com/

What do I do after my tree stump has been ground?

Unfortunately, the tree removal process is not complete once the stump has been ground. There will be a pile of wood shavings remaining where the stump was ground and you must clean them out! If these shavings are left as is, or simply covered with topsoil, you will likely end up with a sinkhole in your yard. If you would like to plant grass in the area, we recommend replacing the shavings with topsoil and overseeding last.

How long does it take to grind the stump?

Small stumps generally take 15-30 minutes to grind, but bigger stumps may take many hours. We will arrange our work around your schedule and deliver a quick and efficient tree stump removal service without any problems.

How deep does the stump grinder go?

A stump grinder can grind 4 to 6 inches below the ground level. If deeper grinding is required, it can be arranged at an extra fee.

How long does it take for a stump to decay by itself?

If left to simply decay and rot away on its own, without any sort of treatment, a decaying stump can take up to ten years to disappear.

Do you need to hire a Licensed Tree Service for Stump Removal?

DIY means Don’t Injure Yourself

Although there are several DIY stump removal procedures, such as hand-digging, burning, and chemical treatment, they are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and, most importantly, unsafe! The most efficient, safest, and time-saving method is to utilize a motorized stump grinder.

Most homeowners do not have a stump grinding machine in their toolbox. While a grinder may be rented from a local equipment rental business, stump grinding requires the same level of preparation, expertise, and safety precautions as tree felling.

As a result, homeowners may wish to hire certified, licensed, and insured professionals for stump grinding services.
